summer reading update

Books I’ve Read So Far This Summer

  • The Poisonwood Bible -Barbara Kingsolver (Re-read, still fucking brilliant.)
  • The Unbearable Lightness of Being -Milan Kundera (Re-read, I’m in a different place every time I do.)
  • The His Dark Materials trilogy -Phillip Pullman (Re-read, still wonderful.)
  • Grapes of Wrath -John Steinbeck (It was good. I wasn’t overwhelmed, though.)
  • Prodigal Summer -Barbara Kingsolver (Her female characters are so brilliantly described.)
  • East of Eden -John Steinbeck (This is the most wonderful book I have read in ages.)
  • The Bean Trees -Barbara Kingsolver (This was her first novel, and while it was an ok read, definitely not as phenomenal as Prodigal Summer or Poisonwood Bible.)
  • Revolutionary Road -Richard Yates (In 2005 the novel was chosen by Time as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.)
  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe -Douglas Adams (The movie definitely ruined my perception of this book.)
  • Slaughterhouse-Five -Kurt Vonnegut (This was a weird read. This was my first Vonnegut novel, but I enjoyed it.)

This has been a reading-filled summer, indeed.
